Record Store Day, for me, is a vinyl Black Friday. For those of you unfamiliar with this vinyl event, let me explain.

On Record Store Day, there are a multitude of special vinyl releases that are only available at participating record stores. The titles are released well in advance and the participating stores can order at will. The catch...the stores don't always get everything they ordered and you don't know what they have until they open their doors on Record Store Day morn. Then, there is the challenge of getting to the vinyl you want amidst the other vinyl hunters. Yes, there are lines of vinyl hunters outside the store before the store opens. Surrounded by the competition, the time spent in line provides a great opportunity to network and share vinyl stories, sometimes even making new friends.

There are vinyl stores that do not order any of the special releases, however, they have special events of their own, including great sales.

Below is the link to the official Record Store Day site so you can check out this year's releases. Research your local vinyl stores to find out who is participating and what they have to offer in the way of special activities, etc.

I'll be blogging my experiences as I attempt to vinyl hunt at a minimum of 4 sites.
